At first the rash looked like eczema, then as it progressed it became dry, then split and bled and also had tinges of yellow to it. Even once we got the rash under control with the use of Dacktarin oral gel and Advantin fatty ointment, the rash outline would remain and it would become dry and the skin would peel. We have tried everything to help fix it. She is able to tell me when it itches or when it is sore. She is getting better at not licking it and not picking at it. It seems that anything with yeast, yeast extract aggrivates it, although 2 years on it doesnt seem to be as aggrerssive. When we first worked out it was yeast, the rash would come up as quickly as 2 hours later. Now it takes longer to come out, sometimes up to 24 hours later. Let me know if you need more information to workout a suitable cream for her.
I also would like to get some cream for myself and my 21 month old. We both have light eczema that comes in patches around our body. Mine is on my fingers and if I let it go (dont use a bit of cortisone) it will split. I also do a lot of dishes so I know that water is always aggrivating it. My 20 month old has light rash over her trunk and has recently got it in her creases behind her knees and elbows. Thank you for your time. Our hypoallergenic face and body balm would be ideal for the problem as it creates a barrier that protects the skin from allergens and also helps heal the area. It does not sting and is tasteless so can be applied frequently during the day. I would suggest at least before and after a meal or snack. The correct amount to apply is at least enough to leave a protective shine on the skin. Once the shine has disappeared you apply more so it can be used frequently and this will produce the best results.
The only thing that concerns me a little is the yellow crusting which can indicate a mild infection requiring an antibiotic ointment. Fungal infections usually are red but have no crust so I would suggest seeing your doctor to eliminate that possibility. It may be that she has a mixed infection of fungal and bacterial origin in which case the Daktarin would have improved the fungal component of the condition but not the bacterial part.
In any case you can immediately start the hypoallergenic face and body balm and if the doctor prescribes an antibiotic ointment you can apply the balm over the top of the antibiotic.Even after the rash has cleared you may wish to apply it before she goes to a party or anywhere that she may inadvertently be exposed to food containing yeast. This will give her a measure of protection.
Whenever she feels like picking or licking it she can ask to have more applied and as it is totally safe may even be able to do it herself. You can also use it after bathing your 20month old and apply it 2-3 times a day for the trunk rash and the crease areas. You will find applying it this often will help solve your hand problem as you can rub some into your skin as well. It is also good to rub it on your skin just before bed. It is a bit oily so applying a bit extra at bedtime allows it to penetrate your skin and give a greater degree of protection. You would apply it before doing the dishes and at bedtime. As washing dishes will dry out your hands again once the problem is under control you will probably be able to just use it every night to maintain a good level of protection.
We do have another product called Psorexederm cream which is more suitable for constant severe painful cracking of the fingertips if your fingers have severe cracking. You apply it the same way but it is white in color so needs to be massaged in more. Hope this helps,We formulated the lavender -free balm (removed the lavender oil) for infants, babys and children with hypersensitivities. The hypoallergenic balm should work precisely the same as our Lavender Balm product, although, of course, it does not come with the lovely smell and color of the Lavender oil.
The hypo allergenic product without lavender oil conforms to the guidelines of Sue Dengate ( see; http://www.fedupwithfoodadditives.info/) who is prominent in helping children with food additive sensitivities. These children also tend to have eczema and so the Hypoallergenic product without lavender was born after requests from a number of customers. Directions for use are exactly the same as for David's Soothing Lavender Face & Body Balm.
