A version of lanolin called Lansinoh is widely marketed in Australia for mothers nipples when breastfeeding and is endorsed by the breastfeeding mothers association so I guess it is just bad luck if you are allergic to lanolin unfortunately. I often get telephone calls from dermatologists raising the same question. If 97% benefit and only 3% need to stop it if it irritates the skin then it is worth a try in my experience. Generally people contact me when all the usual stuff has failed and we get very good results and the occasional refund .
Of course, if you purchase our product, simply patch test it first by applying it once or twice a day to the inner arm side of your elbow. I am 97% certain you will find it works very well. We will refund your money if you are not happy.Sorbolene cream is actually a wax with parafins having the property of holding a lot of water and when 10% glycerin is added to the cream it makes a moisturiser which seems to work well for adults but not so well for children although again many benefit from it.
You may have encountered Derm-eze. A 50%/50% mixture of liquid parafin and soft white parafin. Many websites decry parafin as being a petroleum product but it is so purified it is totally safe and acts as a barrier to stop skin drying out. It is more greasy than our balm but may be worth a try. For yourself, I think you would find it unpleasantly greasy.A product many people have success with is 10/10/10 cream which we make up that many dermatologists try. It is better than sorbolene in my opinion as it has a better barrier effect and low allergenic reaction. It is a mixture of 10%liquid parafin/10% white soft parafin/10% glycerin in aqueous cream.
So there is a wide range of products and dermatology is a try it and see type of science. That's not my Philosophy so I give a money back guarantee.. That way you can be the judge.HI David, Thanks for your reply. One thing that I'm concerned with is Lanolin. I have been hearing mixed reviews about this - I've been reading that lanolin actually aggrevates eczema rather than help soothe it! Is this true?
A few people that have had eczema problems as well have told me to stay away from sorbolene (which the child health nurse said was ok but many people that have eczema said it made the problem worse) as well as lanolin.
What do you think?
It is a fact that 3% of people are allergic to "lanolin" which is a natural skin protectant extracted from sheep's wool. 97% of people have no problem with it. Note: Our Tinea cream does not contain lanolin
The lanolin you buy in the shops typically is fragranced and contains water and preservatives and is MORE allergenic than the "lanolin" we use. The general Medical thinking at the moment is to eliminate anything that has been reported to irritate the skin to hopefully clear up the eczema in case it is due to an external irritant. Thus the paraffin's are used with quite a degree of success but not in all cases and lanolin is considered a possible irritant,However Highly purified grades of lanolin have very low allergenic potential. We use United States Pharmacopeia Grade of Anhydrous Wool Fat (just means best US pharmaceutical grade purified lanolin without any water content)
It is much more purified than ordinary lanolin and has all substances removed other than the pure wool fat itself. In fact ordinary lanolin can cause allergies due to it being a mixture of substances, The pure wool fat has a much less allergy causing effect.
This problem first came up in the 1970's when DDT , Dieldrin and Anticholinesterase pesticides were used which are highly toxic and accumulate in the system. The wool fat we use only comes from one company in Sydney Australia and is free from pesticide or other residues.
We get very few problems with it and if you are not allergic to it, you will benefit from the properties lanolin has that paraffin's alone do have. We combine the paraffin's, a safe antiseptic Chlorhexidine used in mouth washes and lanolin because paraffin is totally water repellent. Lanolin is protective and although oily in texture it actually absorbs and holds water in the skin. For the 97% of people who have no problems with lanolin the benefits are superior to straight paraffin's.
The best trial is to use our product on one part of the eczema and use a paraffin product on another part of the eczema applied at least 3-4 times daily for 1 week. You can then tell which product is best. If you see a sensitivity to lanolin simply stop the product, However we find lanolin helps many people.
