Treating inflammed burning skin on the vulva (Vulvodynia)

QUESTION - Treating a female problem - burning, inflammed skin on the vulva (Vulvodynia)?

Hello - I've seen so many specialists, i.e., dermatologists and gyno/family practioners, and have not yet found an answer to my "female problem." Maybe you can help?

I have a condition called vulvodynia, inflammed skin on the vulva which has been tested (all negative), treated with creams, oral medications, and the next step is either desipramine (sounds risky to my heart) or major painful surgery!!

Might one of your creams help this area without causing further inflammation/burning?

I am only in my late twenties and soon to be married, and needless to say, this problem has deeply affected my life! My relative SWEARS by your breast rash cream after doctoring for years to no avail. She is now a happy and comfortable senior. Could this cream work for my problem as well?

I appreciate any help you have to offer

ANSWER - Treating a female problem - burning, inflammed skin on the vulva (Vulvodynia)

The problem of Vulvodynia has become more mainstream these days and some doctor's know more about it than others. Vulvodynia is difficult to treat as sadly you know I guess.

Prescription products seem to be not much good, products made by compounding chemist on prescription include local anesthetics to numb the area and imipramine cream which stings when applied but can reduce the pain. These can work for some people. Since people give me their feedback when I make these for them I get a reasonable idea of how they work.

I generally like to be able to say you have at least a 90% chance of success when I recommend something. Vulvodynia seems to have about a ~70% success rate with our Psorexederm cream. That is still enough for me to extend my guarantee which means if it doesn't work to your satisfaction I will refund your money. Probably about 1 in 4 cases don't work and naturally I am happy to refund your money if that happens.

You have no doubt found most creams sting severely and this is due to the condition which makes the area terribly sensitive. Psorexederm can sting a little when first used but NOT as much as most other products. I have found you need a 250g jar of it which is enough for 1 month.

There is a similar scrotal condition in males called scrotodynia and I have had some success with treating both conditions.

Our Psorexederm is a thick protective whitish zinc based cream and is applied twice a day fairly thickly as demonstrated in the photo of my hand. Apply more thickly at night. Wear a pantyliner to avoid the cream soiling the clothes. Results will be felt within 1 week and will continue to improve. It may take 2 jars to clear the problem but good improvement should be well and truly evident after 1 jar.

The product is safe and will not damage the skin.

You mention desipramine and this is quite safe. The heart problems are only a concern if you have a heart condition. The more annoying side-effects are dry mouth and sleepiness.

In Australia we use a 5% Imipramine cream (imipramine and desipramine are "brother & sister" compounds) Using it in a cream instead of taking the tablets can lessen the side-effects a little but enough can still be absorbed thru the skin to make you drowsy.

The 5% Imipramine cream seems to help some people but I can NOT say it lives up to my standard to recommend it.

The good thing is all your other tests are negative so you just need to find the product that helps the most. In the one case a person found the stinging a bit of a problem at first but rapid improvement resulted in her purchasing another jar (she had started with a Psorexederm 100g jar to try first.)

I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact me if you need more info.
Kind Regards,
David Hosking. September 2011
