Answer(s) from David about comparision of our Scalp Treatment with Cortisone based product

QUESTIONS: - various products that not helping severe case of Seborrheic Dermatitis
Hello David,
I am a 24/m suffering from a severe case of Seborrheic Dermatitis. I have seen two dermatologists and have not been having strong results. The first dermatologist I saw put me on fluocinonide which did clear my condition up for a small time but came back stronger than ever with severe flaking and hair loss.

The second dermatologist I saw put me on Nizoral 2% everyday, clobetasol in the morning, and dermasmoothe three times a week washing it out in the morning with their own formula of Coal Tar/ Salicylic acid for a two week period. Initially my scalp started to improve and by the end of the second week I became encouraged. A week went by with using the nizoral 2% 3 times a week and it is coming back again. I just talked to the doctor and she told me to resume the previous two week regiment.

Do you think that your Scalp oil should give me the relief that your other customers have had? I am so frustrated right I am at the point of tears. Any response would be much appreciated.

The fact the coal tar/salicylic acid formula helped is encouraging. Our formula is based on that combination with a high level of both ingredients in a penetrating oil base which is left on the scalp overnight for maximum results. The high concentration of active ingredients and the long contact time seems to be the advantage we believe.

You would not need to use nizoral with our product, simply wash it out with any good brand of coal tar shampoo such as T gel etc. It doesn't even have to be a coal tar shampoo but once control is achieved continuing with a coal tar shampoo on a daily basis seems to work the best we have found.

Cortisone seems to suppress the condition temporarily with recurrence on ceasing treatment in many cases so I would suggest avoiding it.

There is a good chance our product will help you and if it doesn't let us know and we will refund your money. If it does work we really appreciate you letting us know too.

When the condition clears you should wash your hair daily anyway in the same way you wash your body every day. I hope this answers your question and should you try the product, that you have good success with it. Recurrences may happen and can be quickly controlled by using the product again. As a guide, good improvement should be seen within 7 to 14 days. Kind Regards, David Hosking. 10/12/07

Good evening,

I suffer from the above and was given a
prescription for Dermasmoothe, which works ok but a bother. I
leave it in overnight and wear a plastic cap then in the morning
I have to use a fine tooth combs to remove some of the scales. It
is very messy and I have to do this often. Is your product better
than this prescription? It sound like it is. Please advise me as
I live in the United States and I know I would need to order
some. Thank you ,I would appreciate any help or advice that you can offer.

Hi B and Ross (my webdesigner)

your questions are good ones so I will get my webdesigner to add the method of use to the website and the comparison to Dermasmoothe, so thank you for your questions,

Dermasmoothe is a cortisone based product which suppresses scaling but like all cortisone products tends to treat the symptoms rather than the cause.

Our Psorexederm scalp treatment is messier than dermasmoothe but quicker acting, non-cortisone and gives long periods of relief from the problem between recurrences as scalp psoriasis tends to recur.

The product is a brown vegetable oil based solution of coal tar which reduces flake formation and inflammation and salicylic acid (a naturally occurring willow tree product) which is a keratolytic that breaks down the scales into smaller particles easily washed out of the hair.

We get very good results with it. You apply it with the dropper enclosed to the affected areas of the scalp at night and wash it off in the morning. If you use an old pillow slip and apply it with a lot of precision you probably won't need to wear a cap to bed to avoid getting it on the pillowslip which it can stain.

Use it every day for 14 days or until the problem has cleared up, whatever comes first. If the problem is also behind your ears just apply a small smear to the area with your fingertip.

Use a good brand of coal tar shampoo such as T-gel to wash it out which is easily done. Just apply straight shampoo to the dry hair where you applied the lotion the night before, massage it in to dissolve the oil and add water, work into a lather and simply wash it out. You can use any conditioner you wish to cover the slight tar smell which is minimal.

Once the problem has cleared up, continue to use a tar based shampoo eg T-gel at least 3 times a week. It is ideal if you wash your hair every day as this increases the time between recurrences.

People with long hair find this a bother so if you are in that situation at least use the T-gel 3-4 times a week after the problem has cleared up. Any less than that and a recurrence is more likely.

Some people feel you should not wash you hair every day. This is not correct as you wash your body every day reducing the number of bacteria on your skin and keeping it fresh and healthy. The same applies to hair. As the product is cortisone free you do not risk the long term problems associated with toxicity from the strong cortisone fluocinolone acetonide in Dermasmoothe.

Kind Regards,
David Hosking.
