My 13 year old daughter has been diagnosed by G.P. with perioral dermatitis. Was using prescribed elecon a few months ago, which worked after a few days. Can only use for a week, then rash comes back worse than before. She has now started on a course of antibiotics, just over a week ago. Wondered if one of your products could help??? Rash on face at sides of nose, around mouth and chin, bumpy red spots. She complains of severe itchiness, tightness of skin and stings too. This rash has appeared now and again over the last year or so. Every time if reappears, has become more severe. Your advice would be much appreciated.
A good strength multivitamin often helps too. Any good brand containing all essential nutrients especially all the B group, C, zinc and A & D. have seen such good results with long term vitamin supplementation for general health that I recommend a good multivitamin everyday for all my clients. Vitamins are very beneficial for skin that repairs itself frequently such as the lips, face & inside the mouth.
Hope this helps, Kind Regards, David HoskingThank you for the lovely feedback, it is always great to hear our products are helping people.
You should have no problem clearing up your perioral dermatitis using our hypo allergenic face and body balm. Apply it to the affected area 3-4 times a day. Also apply it before your go swimming as chlorine will irritate your skin. Apply it fairly thickly so it leaves a shin on your skin before you have any dental work done to provide a barrier to the chemicals in the latex. When the dental work is finished, remove the balm which should have captured the irritants that would normally be absorbed by your skin with a cleanser such as cetaphil or any suitable soap free cleanser. Then apply a fresh layer of balm to soothe your skin.
I would also advise taking a good strength multivitamin containing all essential nutrients especially all the B group, C, zinc and A & D. I once was sceptical about multivitamins as what the body doesn't use is excreted in the urine leading to the idea "That taking multivitamins when you have a good diet just gives you the most expensive urine in the world." I believed that for 10 years but now I have seen such good results with long term vitamin supplementation for general health that I recommend a good multivitamin everyday for all my clients except those on medications that would react badly with vitamins (mainly anti-cancer drugs).
Vitamins are very beneficial for skin that repairs itself frequently such as the lips, face & inside the mouth. Vitamins alone will not do a lot for your condition but along with the balm they should help a lot.
Kind Regards,I love your scalp lotion, this is the second winter I've been using it and it's working wonderfully. I also have your breast rash creame which is marvelous as well.
Do you have a remedy for perioral dermatitis? I periodically am affected in my chin area and find as time goes on more and more things cause me sensitivity, i.e. if I go to the dentist, their latex gloves make my chin breakout.
Your advice in this matter is appreciated.
Regards, MD, USARosacea and Perioral Dermatitis often go together. Eczema is not uncommon either. The fact the minocycline is helping tends to confirm rosacea may be involved. The sulfur and salicylic acid cream is helpful but a little drying to the skin, our Hypoallergenic Face and Body balm is excellent to counteract that.
At this point I would be continuing with these products and awaiting the patch test results. Once you have those then consider the following. Our Hypoallergenic Face and Body balm is very often effective for the dryness of perioral dermatitis and dryness caused by rosacea treatments. It can be used frequently on the lips also as it is non-toxic. It is also effective for dry eczema patches on the body. For dry itchy patches you alternate the Psorexederm cream morning and night with the hypoallergenic balm twice a day.
For the genital/anal areas and also itchy eczema/psoriasis we have a product called psorexederm cream. It contains soothing zinc oxide, anti itch coal tar, healing vitamin A in a lanolin and marine oil base. You apply it before bed at night and in the morning. As it is zinc based it may stain dark clothing. This can be avoided by placing a panty liner in the back of the underwear to allow a liberal amount of cream to be used but none to get on the clothing. We have had success with using it in the genital area too so I would try it for the buttocks first then if successful try it for the vulval area. It does not sting. I hope this helps, 26/10/10Visually the skin is extremely dry and cracked and occasionally flaky and the itchiness just drives me to absolute distraction, it has become quite depressing. For years and years I have had ongoing trouble with perioral dermatitis that I've had to take several lots of Doxycycline over time to clear up, and also to discontinue use of creams/moisturisers/steroids on the affected areas. It usually fixes it but then it always comes back over time.
It flared up a few months ago around my chin and top lip area which is normal, but a similar spotty, bumpy red rash seemed to appear on my cheeks and on my nose area, and particularly around the bridge of my nose. It was like it was on top of the cracked dry skin area that I mentioned previously. I went to the derma and he thinks it's a combination of eczema or psoriasis with maybe rosacea and perioral dermatitis that may now have become periorificial dermatitis. He prescribed another course of pills, this time it was Minocycline, which seems to be gradually clearing up the parts that are around my chin and upper lip, but the rest of it seems to be the same at the moment. He said it's hard to be sure what's going on exactly and also hard to treat, because the treatment for eczema/psoriasis is moisturising creams which is opposite to the perioral dermatitis treatment, being no creams etc at all.He also prescribed sulphur and salicyclic acid in sorbolene cream, it's helped the dry, cracked areas a little bit except for the skin around the bridge of my nose, which it drives absolutely nuts. He has decided to do some patch tests next week to see if the problems on my face are caused by any products that I'm using, which I'm starting to suspect might be the cause, even though I am very careful what I put on it and always use hypo-allergenic, sensitive skin products. So that will be interesting to get those results.
Secondly, a couple of years ago I developed severe irritation, redness and itchiness in the vulva area and on the skin around the anal area. I ended up being referred to a gynecologist who did a biospy which came back with an indefinite diagnosis but said it was most probably psoriasis.Since then I have tried just about every medication and treatment around but to no avail. It visually presents in the vulval area as a red, bumpy and spotty rash and looks inflamed and sore. Between my buttock cheeks it is mainly just red and inflamed, I haven't noticed the same sort of bumpy rash there. In that area it mainly just feels extremely irritated and sore and using toilet paper is very irritating to it. It only gets really itchy every now and again, but in the vulval area it gets extremely itchy and drives me crazy all the time, I just can't stand it.
I find that the hot weather and perspiration annoy it immensely in both areas. At the moment I'm using Bepanthen in the buttock area as I have found that to be the best so far and it lasts the longest throughout the day. I don't put anything on the vulval area anymore as I've found that most products seem to aggravate it and make it worse. The only product I've found that hasn't done that so far is Thursday Plantation tea tree oil antiseptic ointment. It is almost like there are two different problems going on down there. I use soap on my body that I get from the Psoriasis Clinic which is the only one I have found so far that doesn't irritate things. I use OMO sensitive skin wash powder. The derma told me to try the sulphur and sorbolene cream down there as well, which has helped a little bit in the vulval area but not the anal.I did tell him how I'd been reading some info recently about perioral dermatitis and how it may rarely affect genital skin or the skin surrounding the anus and I asked him did he think that might be what the problem is in my genital area instead of psoriasis, because that would mean that the treatment would be different for it. He said it's a possibility but he couldn't be sure, but if it was though then the antibiotics should help.
Lastly, I've also had a problem with patches of eczema on various parts of my body for about 15 years, the best treatment for these I've found so far is Dermaveen, but if you could recommend something better that would be great. So I'm at an absolute loss about what to do, I just can't see myself putting up with these problems for the rest of my life. I'm hoping you will be able to help me out. Thank you so much for taking the time to read thisWe formulated the lavender -free balm (removed the lavender oil) for infants, babys and children with hypersensitivities. The hypoallergenic balm should work precisely the same as our Lavender Balm product, although, of course, it does not come with the lovely smell and color of the Lavender oil.
The hypo allergenic product without lavender oil conforms to the guidelines of Sue Dengate ( see; http://www.fedupwithfoodadditives.info/) who is prominent in helping children with food additive sensitivities. These children also tend to have eczema and so the Hypoallergenic product without lavender was born after requests from a number of customers. Directions for use are exactly the same as for David's Soothing Lavender Face & Body Balm.
